Pricing Glossary

Pay-as-you-Go Rates

Our Pay-as-you-Go pricing is based upon three key metrics of usage: Users, Records and File Storage. These three key metrics are defined, and priced, as follows:

  • Users ($10/user/month) - Measure of the total number of "Regular Users" in a Coghead account. All Regular Users are added and defined by the account Administrator. Guest Users and Limited Users (described below) are not counted against this total.
  • Records ( $5/10k records/month) - Measures the total number of Records in all Collections within a given account. Keep in mind that Coghead's unique storage model is based on an XML schema, whereby Records are hierarchical, and can have related child data. Therefore the number of records will be much less than in a typical SQL database.
  • File Storage ($10/1GB/month) - Measure of the total amount of data stored in an account. This includes both text data entered into a record, and attachments on the record (gifs, pdfs, etc).

User Types

In Coghead, there are three types of users: Regular, Guest and Limited. These user types give the account administrator a great deal of flexibility to tailor their account usage to fit many common business scenarios.

  • Regular Users - Users of a Coghead Account with full access to the Coghead Console, Coglets, API, etc. By default all Regular Users will have access to all Applications in an Account to view and modify data.
  • Guest Users - Are identical to Regular Users, except they can only access the Account for 10 days. A Guest User can be upgraded to a Regular User at any time.
  • Limited Users - Users of a Coghead Account with limited access. These are typically external or occasional users who will access data via Coglets or API-based applications. Limited Users cannot access the Coghead console. Limited Users are purchased as a block via the Limited User Option Pack ($50/mo) which supports an unlimited number of these users.

Examples: You can assign Regular Users for your internal team of most active users. Assign Guest Users for those new to the system and looking to evaluate how it works. And assign Limited Users for your customers who come to your site to lookup data, or enter data into a web-based form.

Note: You can also use Coghead's powerful Account mgmt tools to set permissions and groups to achieve even more granularity over what users can access.

Account Types

Currently there are two types of Accounts in Coghead: Free Trial and Standard. You can provision any number of Accounts of each type and associate them with a given Member ID. Accounts can be upgraded, downgraded or canceled at any time.

  • Free Trial - Free - Includes 1 user and a base allotment of records and storage. Allows development of any number of Coghead applications, and the addition of Guest Users for evaluation purposes. You cannot add Limited Users to a Free Trial account. Can be upgraded to a paid Standard account at any time.
  • Standard - Paid - Provide a pre-configured amount of users, records and storage. All Standard accounts includes the features of the Free Trial account, PLUS you can brand the account, add Limited Users, and get access to Premium Email support.

Example: I can take out a Free Trial account and use it for development purposes, and later add a paid Standard account where I locate all of my production applications for my company to use.

Account Parameters

In addition to the basic account parameters (Users, Records and Storage) and user types (Regular, Guest, Limited) defined above, there are several more important parameters of a Coghead account shown on our Pricing Page. These are explained below.

  • Applications (Free & Paid accounts) - Every Coghead account gives you the ability to create, modify and share an unlimited number of applications. Applications can range from a simple To Do List to a complex CRM application. Visit the Coghead Gallery for more examples.
  • API (Free & Paid accounts) - Includes the ability to use our REST Web Services API for powerful integration scenarios. For example, creating dynamic website applications that use Coghead as the backend. Visit our API Guide for more details.
  • Coglets (Free & Paid accounts) - Includes the ability to create Coglets. Coglets are unique Coghead gadgets that can be embedded in a web page, Google page, or viewed using an iPhone. Their small compact profile, and quick creation capabilities are perfect for giving access to a "slice" of your Coghead apps. For example, creating forms for visitors to enter data on your website. Visit our Coglets mini-site for more details.
  • SSL (Free & Paid accounts) - Coghead provides SSL encryption to protect your valuable data during transmission over the internet. This encryption scheme is enabled on all communications between the Coghead Platform and various Clients (Console, Coglets, API and Website).
  • Branding - Paid accounts only - Provides the ability to brand your account and applications so that they look and feel like your business. This includes the ability to upload a custom logo, use your own unique URL, and soon, the ability to modify the color scheme of the Coghead Console itself.
  • Premium Support - Paid accounts only - Gives the Account holder the ability to utilize the Coghead Support email, as well as receive detailed product information and updates. All accounts have the ability to use the Coghead Support site, Forums, User Guide and more. Visit our Support site for more details.

Limited Users

Limited Users can now be purchased to enable any number of external or occassional users to access your Coghead data. There are a few important parameters to remember.

  • Option Pack ($50/month) - Gives access to any number of external website visitors designated as Limited Users in the Coghead console. For use with API-based or Coglet applications. Includes 2 Access Points.
  • Access Points ($15/month) - Must be used with any API or Coglet application that involve Limited Users. Access Points are defined in the Coghead admin console and specify the Application, Collection, and View to be used for accessing data.
  • Bandwidth Threshold - Each Access Point will also have a maximum bandwidth threshold defined for a given month. This is the total amount of data that can be accessed by all users of the Access Point. This threshold is in place to prevent any one account from consuming a disproportionate amount of system resources. The Administrator of the Account will be contacted if the Bandwidth Threshold has been exceeded.
