Would be nice to be able to add a button in the form that allows you to trigger an action for the current record.

Action Buttons on Form

We are currently working on UI design that will move the record-specific action controls to the form.

Can you provide an explicit example of what you are looking for? We are interested to know.

Hi,
An example would be in the form, next to a date field, where you place a button 'set to today' that would perhaps check some conditions and then update the field accordingly.

I use this sort of functionality a lot in Siebel and FileMaker, it's often buttons that update a status field, but usually only if certain conditions are met. I find it is good practice to place these buttons right next to the relevant fields.

Thanks for providing the detail. This is not currently supported, but we have logged your request. I will update this post when we have a better idea of when we will add this type of functionality.

Right now you can have form specific actions that can update a field based on conditions, but not the flexibility to put the button next to the field on the form. This makes a lot of sense.
