Coghead Introduces Coglets

Web Gadgets Called “Coglets” Open Coghead's Rich Do-it-Yourself Web-based Applications to External Users

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – July 10, 2007 – Coghead™ today announced the beta release of Coglets™, web gadgets that customers use to embed slices of their Coghead applications into any web page – no coding required. By pasting a single line of automatically generated code into HTML-based web pages, Coghead developers can deliver webware applications that can be economically accessed through ordinary web pages.

A Coglet is a slice of a Coghead application that can easily be cut-and-pasted into any HTML-based web page. Once incorporated into a web page, Coglets are dynamically linked back to the Coghead application. Typically, a Coglet presents a list of records from a Coghead database or a detailed view of a particular record. Several Coglets can work together to create an extremely powerful web interface to a Coghead application, and Coglets can be configured to allow either anonymous or authenticated access. Coglets can be styled in the existing format and design of a website. A Coghead API is also available for developers that require additional control or customization capability.

Coglets are a fast and economical way to grant a large number of users access to a portion of a Coghead application. Examples of Coglets in action include:

  • A restaurant that uses Coglets as part of a custom order management application, providing web access for vendors and suppliers to check the restaurant’s inventory levels and re-order supplies as needed
  • A travel company with an employee directory application that uses a Coglet to create a web form on its intranet to let employees update their own contact information. Once input on the web form, the information is automatically updated in the Coghead application
  • A property management company that uses a Coglet to allow tenants to schedule maintenance on their units or to help potential renters schedule appointments to see open properties

“With Coglets we're providing a simple way for our members to extend the value of their Coghead applications by opening up slices of those applications to a large universe of users – their customers, partners, or myriad anonymous or authenticated users,” said Paul McNamara, Coghead CEO. “Coglets make it extremely easy to turn a website into a dynamic web application. This do-it-yourself capability is essential for connecting with users that expect an interactive web experience.”

Availability and Pricing
Coghead is offering free use of Coglets during the beta period, which begins today. Coglets will be generally available starting later in the year. After the beta period, a single Coglet can be purchased for $20 per month for unlimited users. Customers can build their own Coglets or use a pre-built Coglet from the Coghead Applications Gallery.
