Announcing Coghead 2.0

COGHEAD LAUNCHES COGHEAD 2.0 -- GAME-CHANGING PERFORMANCE AND SCALABILITY

Improvements to the Hosting Infrastructure and User Interface Make the DIY Application Development Platform Faster and Easier to Use

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Jan. 14, 2008 - Coghead today announced the immediate availability of Coghead 2.0, the next generation of its do-it-yourself web application platform. Coghead 2.0 brings breakthroughs in performance and usability to web-based applications by leveraging advanced technology such as Adobe’s Rich Internet Application (RIA) technologies. In addition, Coghead announced that Amazon.com will host the Coghead service using its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service, giving Coghead customers peace of mind that their applications and data are supported by the same technology infrastructure that Amazon.com uses. (See related Adobe and Amazon announcements).

“Our latest enhancements and upgrades have made Coghead 2.0 better, faster, and stronger,” said Paul McNamara, Coghead CEO. “As a leading innovator in web-based application platforms, we continue to leverage some of the most advanced web technologies, like Adobe’s Flex and Amazon.com’s EC2, to provide our customers with a simple yet powerful solution to their application needs.”

The Second Generation of Coghead

Coghead 2.0 delivers more than 50 new features that enhance the performance and usability of the web applications created with the Coghead service, including a new Home Page, redesigned authoring environment, new form editor, new drag and drop widgets, a unified expression editor, support for Open ID, and more. For a complete list of enhancements visit the Coghead website at http://www.coghead.com/.

Performance was a major focus of the release, and Coghead 2.0 is now more than 3X faster than Coghead 1.0. With the switch to Adobe’s Flex environment, Coghead has delivered a rich, high-performance client-side experience that approaches desktop applications. Developers can now launch actions, navigate tabs, switch between records, all at speeds approaching desktop applications. In addition, Coghead is uniquely positioned to take advantage of future Adobe technologies such as AIR.

“When I first heard about Coghead, I was intrigued. Upon further research into the company, I was blown away by the depth of the service,” said Sarita Bremar, information technology programmer/analyst, Colonial Group International. “Now Coghead has introduced an upgrade to its powerful platform that really takes customers’ feedback into account and addresses our most important needs for performance, usability, and scalability. The enhancements Coghead has made are impressive and will enable us to create even better web applications.”

With its new state-of-the art hosting infrastructure provided by Amazon.com, one of the web’s most trusted brands, Coghead 2.0 is stronger and more robust. The platform is designed for scale and to adapt to meet the evolving needs of developers, entrepreneurs, and application end users. Coghead developers will immediately benefit from access to Amazon’s web services including both EC2 and the S3 storage system.

“Now, when you build an application on Coghead you are, by extension, building an application on EC2,” said McNamara. “So in a sense, we’re making Amazon’s EC2 more accessible to a broader range of DIY developers.”

Currently, more than 25,000 do-it-yourselfers use Coghead’s online application development service to create business applications and entrepreneurial opportunities. An intuitive, drag-and-drop interface makes it easy and fast to build sophisticated, robust applications – from managing sales pipelines to tracking supplies for restaurants – without any coding. The web-based services are developed and delivered using Coghead’s infrastructure, so there is no significant upfront investment and the platform automatically scales to meet user demand.

Pricing and Availability

Coghead 2.0 is available now. Pricing remains unchanged with a base plan of $49 per month for five users. To register to use the service, visit the Coghead website at http://www.coghead.com/.
